“His theme song was Some Beach, but Stenvig was a long ways from Margaritaville.” – Quote from L’Anse Sentinel article
Just East of Marquette, on HW M-28, is the Gordon Roadside Park. It is a long stretch of beach with a couple turnouts for parking. Here is a map. The highway runs along this beach for roughly a mile. I’ve driven past this beach beach countless times over the years, and maybe stopped once or twice for a break on long trips from the Lower Peninsula. It’s one of those beaches you just get used to seeing every time you drive by, and pretty soon you’ve taken it for granted that such a beautiful view can accompany the sound of your tires spinning down the pavement and the yellow lines racing past below your window. This beach is certainly a fantastic spot for a break during road trips, and a refreshing view for those who wish to just pass by. But this beach is also a great beach for a day trip. There are some really nice picnic tables, grilling stations, walkways down to the beach, and absolutely beautiful views. And, of course, the water is great!
