“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” – Romans 8:28
This is a very special beach. Definitely one of my all-time favorites. The mouth of the Two-Hearted River is quite out of the way and little known to anyone except locals or those who’ve been there before. I could hardly believe what a spectacular place this turned out to be. I found it using the satellite view on Google Maps… just saw what I thought was a nice sandy beach and wrote down the roads that would get me there. It’s not easy to get there, but well worth the trip! The Two-Hearted River is a very tranquil river that appears to be popular for kayaking. Only a mile or so from the beach there is a rental shop of sorts, with canoes, kayaks, and ATV’s for rent. Groups of people will put kayaks in a couple miles up the river and float down to the lake, where there is a very nice campground and beach.
The river makes a turn just before the lake and parallels the shoreline for a bit. This is where the campground is, with sites dispersed along the river in a beautiful stand of mixed pines, aspen, and maple trees. I’d never heard of this place before, but it’s definitely a place I wish to camp in the future. And of course you can see the nice suspension bridge crossing the river to get to the beach. I consider this one of the best beaches on Lake Superior’s UP shoreline. Simply amazing. You can see how big the beach is… and it gets much sandier down by the river mouth. A river tends to make beaches more interesting. This place is very neat!
